This Tudor cottage is a charming escape from the everyday; an exquisite, laid back yet lovely home that’s just perfect for exploring this historic corner of Kent, known as the ‘Garden of England’.
Welcome to the Galleon, our retreat in the county of Kent. Sleeping six, this stunning 16th century, Tudor home is just beautiful; a Grade II listed building with a stylish Georgian façade.
Step inside and you’ll receive the warmest of welcomes. With beams reputedly from the galleons used in the Spanish Armada and many other original features, this is a characterful home that beautifully compliments the laid back yet luxurious interiors. Combining natural, soothing tones with both contemporary and antique furnishings, you’ll soon leave the stresses and strains of everyday life behind.
With three double bedrooms, one ensuite, lots of living space and a mature garden, this is a homestay that’s perfect for couples, families, and friends alike, and is easily accessible being just under one hour from London.
Set in the market town of West Malling, there’s plenty to see and do in the area, from historical houses, neolithic sites and ancient cities to fabulous restaurants, amazing walks, and protected havens for wildlife.
Living
Galleon has two sumptuous sitting areas in which to relax. The first is a spacious room that boasts stunning wooden floors, original Tudor beamed ceiling, a leather three-seater sofa, armchair, coffee table, large Smart television, and an original Georgian ‘range’ fireplace. This is a wonderful space for pre- or post-dinner drinks. This shares a space with the dining area.
The cosy front reception room has two two-seater sofas, a blissful wood burner, exposed beams, wooden floor, drinks cabinet and a Smart television – perfect for film nights or for catching up on your favourite box set.
Please note, due to the historic nature of the house, there are some low beams and door openings, particularly in the sitting room.
Eating
The fabulous kitchen, with stunning herringbone stone floor, is just a dream for creating feasts. With eye-catching plum-coloured Aga, cream cabinets, and black worktops, it’s a room that perfectly combines beauty with efficiency, being equipped with everything you could need with a dishwasher, microwave, American style fridge freezer, washing machine, tumble dryer and cafetieres for morning coffee. We just adore the exposed beams in this room, a stunning feature of this incredible home.
For dining, there are two options. In the sitting room to the back, there’s a white marble ‘tulip’ dining table that seats six – perfect for laid back dinners – whilst there’s a separate breakfast room with table for four.
Sleeping
There are three lovely bedrooms to choose from, each with king-sized beds.
The master bedroom, with en suite shower room, is a peaceful room with touches of green, making it a beautiful room to retreat to at the end of the day. With two sash windows, soft carpeting, and natural colours throughout, the room also benefits from a dressing table, armchair, bedside tables, a chest of drawers and a Smart television.
The further two bedrooms are equally stunning, one with touches of charcoal grey and the other in dusky pinks. Both feature exposed beams, dressing tables, full length mirrors, bedside tables, a chest of drawers and Smart televisions.
All three beds come swathed in sumptuous bedding, cotton linens and luxurious throws and cushions to ensure a blissful nights’ sleep.
Bathing
As well as the en suite shower room to the master bedroom, there’s a family bathroom complete with bath and shower, overlooking the garden. Both have heated rails to ensure towels are kept beautifully soft and warm for you. In addition, there’s a downstairs loo.
Outside space
Galleon has a stunning mature garden that has a sunny terrace complete with pergola, table and chairs and barbeque for outside dining, plus two sofas, two loungers and two coffee tables for lazy summer days relaxing. When the sun sets, there’s a patio heater if the weather turns cooler. Beyond the terrace, the garden is laid to lawn, edged with beautiful, blooming borders – a great space for games!

Resident parking permits are available.

Babies and children are most welcome. A travel cot and highchair are provided on request.

Pets are welcome at this property.

Set in the pretty market town of West Malling, there’s plenty to see and do in this lovely part of the county. There are several National Trust sites that are well worth a visit, such as Coldrum Long Barrow – a megalithic burial chamber - and Ightham Mote, an outstanding 14th century moated manor house. Other places of note include St Mary’s Abbey, a working community of Benedictine nuns, and Manor Park Country Park – once part of an 18th century estate, now home to a wide range of wildlife across its 52 acres. Leybourne Lakes Country Park, created in 2004, covers 230 acres of lakes, wildflower meadows, wetlands, hedgerows, and scrub and is perfect for walking, cycling and water sports such as stand-up paddle boarding, kayaking, windsurfing, and swimming. West Malling has its own music festival, which generally runs from late September to early October, whilst the monthly farmer’s market is a must to pick up tasty local produce. Galleon is also just a short walk from great places to eat, such as The Swan and St Leonard’s, whilst there’s a host of independent shops to explore too. Further afield, Royal Tunbridge Wells is a gorgeous town with fabulous shops and eateries, whilst the Kent Downs and High Weald are fantastic for walking. Rochester is well worth a visit too with its Norman castle, cathedral (the second oldest in England) and a Roman wall – it’s no wonder this city was much loved by novelist Charles Dickens.
