This house is an eclectic mix of traditional Southwestern adobe architecture decorated with art and artefacts from all over the world, especially Kenya - my home.
Most people's mouths open in joy when they enter the huge living room, with its 40-foot wall of tall, sunny windows (passive solar), shepherd's fireplace and solid viga wood beams. The vibe is global nomad, with art, textiles and artefacts from all over the world. It's colorful and eclectic, cozy and comfortable.
The huge, sunny master bedroom at one end of the house has a queen bed with bedside tables and reading lamps. There is a view over distant hills and an exit to the 70-foot terrace and adjoining Green Belt. There is a large walk-in closet and an en suite bathroom.
RAFIKI bedroom at the other end of the house also has an exit to the terrace, where there is a very cute sitting area if weather allows. It has a queen bed with bedside tables and reading lamps, and private modern bathroom with walk-in shower and a huge closet with hanging and shelf space, and kitchenette ( fridge, French press, electric kettle, plates, bowls, utensils for 2, convection oven).
MARIDADI bedroom, accessed via the entrance hallway, has a full bed with reading lamp, shelves for clothing and hangers on the backs of two doors. It has a modern bathroom and a kitchenette with a mini-fridge and a small kitchen utility area (convection oven, electric kettle, French press, plates, mugs, wine glasses, utensils) for warm-up meals only.
The kitchenettes in these bedrooms makes the house ideal not only for families, but also for groups or staff.
Each bathroom is supplied with a first aid kit, shampoo, conditioner, and body lotion.
All linens and towels are best quality and plentiful for all three bedrooms and bathrooms.
The main galley kitchen adjoins the living room with an open counter/bar area. Sliding drawers and cabinets hold all the crockery, cutlery and gadgets you could want. The new, 5-ring gas stove and dishwasher are sleek and highly efficient. You have access to our large collection of spices and basics, like salt, pepper, and tea bags. It's a super efficient work space for one or two cooks.
The laundry/utilities room leads from the kitchen and holds a large washer, dryer, cleaning products, hot water heater and state-of-the-art water filtration system. There is an ironing board, two irons, and a laundry basket. There is a back exit from this room.
The 70-foot terrace boasts a seating area (weather permitting) and gas BBQ, as well as a hot tub for two. Enjoy magnificent views to the distant hills at all times of the day, as well as sunrise and sunset and moonrise and moonset. At night, the skies are almost always filled with stars and the Milky Way floats right over your head. Our neighbors are invisible. You rule the kingdom!
From the terrace, you step onto the path that leads you over the hill and onto one of the hiking paths of the Eldorado Green Belt where you (and your dog) can walk for miles.
The large garage can be used ONLY to store sports equipment and luggage. There is no parking in the garage.
A short walk along a path next to the garage leads you to the separate little "casita" - a one-room building that serves as a mighty nice office/studio/yoga room (no bathroom). It is carpeted, has a long work desk and its own high speed dedicated wifi. The casita has a dedicated parking space, complete with water and electric hookups for RVs - but there is no sewage dump.

You have the entire property to yourselves.
1. All the rules and instructions for the house will be printed out for you and lying on the dining table when you arrive.
2. We have an excellent handyman who can fix anything in case of emergency. You can pay him directly to shovel snow or salt ice if necessary.
2. The property will be sparkling clean when you arrive and will be cleaned the day after you elave. Cleaning fees included in rent. You pay extra in cash to the team if you want extra cleaning.
3. The hot tub is set up for you one day before your visit. Fees included.
4. WATER is incredibly expensive here! Please please please be mindful of your water usage.
5) Yes, we have mice and packrats in the area. It is essential not to leave crumbs, open food bags or food particles lying around. (We haven't seen a mouse in over two years!).
WATER
We live in a desert. Water is extremely expensive.
Do NOT leave faucets running

Do NOT wash your car
Do NOT empty and refill the hot tub.
CLEANING
The house is cleaned the day before you move in and the day you move out. You can request extra cleaning for an additional fee.
HOT TUB
It has been professionally set up and is good to go. Do not change any settings!
The hot tub is not a swimming pool. DO NOT ALLOW KIDS TO PLAY IN IT FOR HOURS.
DECORATIVE ARRANGEMENTS
Do NOT move the furniture around
Do NOT change the positions of any items on the window sills, shelves or elsewhere.
HOUSE INSTRUCTIONS
You will receive a full manual of instructions by email once you have booked, and further instructions about running the house will also be printed out and available on the dining table.
SMOKING
When I say no smoking, I mean no smoking - anywhere.
DOGS
If you're coming with dogs, please ensure that they do not cause any damage. Our manager takes photographs of everything before and after your visit. Scratches, ruined bedding or carpets, or chewed up items will be charged.
We provide some items for dogs: mats, bowls, several older blankets that must be spread over the beds to protect bedding. All dog items are in the closet in the guest bedroom.
KIDS
This is a sophisticated house full of artefacts from all over the world. These are not toys!! Please discipline your children to not pick up and touch everything around them.
GARAGE
My car remains in one side of the garage. The other side, accessible through a side door, is a cozy, relaxed place with some armchairs, a sofa and a table. It's an ideal hangout for teens or anyone who wants to escape the crowd! It is not heated. Nothing may be removed or moved around. You may store luggage and sports equipment here.
GARBAGE
Garbage is placed in either a grey can for regular garbage, or a green can for recyclables. Our manager will remove them on the scheduled pickup days.
RODENTS
Yes, we have rodents! Mice and packrats love this area.
SECURITY
A roving camera follows all movement on parking lot and at front door. The front door to the main house and to the casita have keyless coded locks. You will receive the code upon reservation.
SAFETY
All bedrooms and living room are supplied with smoke and CO detectors.
Each bedroom has a heavy duty professional fire extinguisher near the door. The property conforms to all local fire prevention measures.
ACCESS
The property is all on the ground floor. There are no stairs or elevations, except for 3 stairs on the path leading to the casita. Access is easy for persons with walking strollers or small wheelchairs.
1) I have provided 2 blinking light, battery-driven magnetic deterrents that you place in the engine of your car. This seems to keep the rodents away, otherwise they do like to nest in your engine and chew your cables. These deterrents cost $45 each - and I want them back!! You will be required to leave them on the dining table at departure. Failure to do so will incurr extra fees.
