Located directly on the beach at Balcary Bay with dramatic 360 sea views, the historic tower offers guests the opportunity to stay in luxury with 4 individually designed suites, multiple social spaces, a natural sea water pool, acres of private mature garden and woodland to explore and direct access to the beach.

The space
Arrive at the gates of Balcary Tower to discover a long, sweeping driveway winding it's way through mature woodland and gardens.
As the driveway opens you will catch your first glimpse of the spectacular historical tower as it sits pride of place on the edge of the sea rocks soaking up the outstanding sea views.
Enter the tower and you will be greeted by a stunning, spacious, light and bright open plan, kitchen, sitting and breakfast area, here, from the large picture window, is where you will catch the first glimpse of the breathtaking views the tower has to offer throughout.
The sitting area, with it's large, comfortable corner sofa sports a super size wall mounted TV with surround sound, connectivity to SKY means a full choice of channels for relaxing after a long day exploring all our beautiful region has to offer. The wood burner makes it a cosy and welcoming space during the winter months although you may not see much of the TV as you will be captivated by the view over the natural pool to the sea beyond from the large picture window!
The fully equipped kitchen is the ultimate in meal preparation. State of the art appliances from Gaggenau, Miele & Gaggia mean cooking is a pleasure and preparing anything from a light lunch to a full evening meal is a breeze.
There is ample preparation space with multiple granite worktops, dual basins one with hot water tap and multiple cabinets and drawers for food storage.
Enjoy a morning Espresso, Cappuccino or Macchiato from the Gaggia coffee maker, seated at the breakfast bar with views out the picture window, it's the perfect start to your morning.
Prefer a glass of wine or champagne? The wine fridge will hold your favourite grape or bottle of fizz at the optimum temperature, patio doors leading out to the balcony make this the perfect spot for an evening tipple as it looks out over the pool, gardens and sea beyond, as dusk settles, switch on the flood lighting to light up the pool for a truly magical experience.
Move from this space into the main hallway to discover the first of the 4 individually designed suites.
The New England Suite is decorated in hues of blue, red and white to reflect the beautiful natural colours of the region known for it's harbour towns and fishing.
Double windows looking out to the pool area give the room a light, bright feel and the fully lined curtains and super comfortable king size bed will ensure a good night sleep is had by all.
It's own TV with both terrestrial channels and streaming services and spacious en-suite with walk in shower, basin & WC make this suite the perfect, relaxing retreat after a long day of activities.
Continue down the hallway to be greeted by the utterly charming dining room and snug.
Decorated to encapsulate a snapshot of our diverse and beautiful Scottish wildlife, both rooms are spacious but cosy with brown leather furniture, dark wood, cosy textiles and glimpses of stags & pheasants!
The dining room is the ideal space for a social meal with family or friends and is the perfect setting for a memorable evening of fun and laughter.
The good size dining table will seat 8 comfortably and ambient lighting makes it a warm and welcoming space. The dining room has dual aspect windows looking over both the pool and out to sea meaning there is never a lost opportunity to appreciate your location.
Through an archway leading from the dining room you will find the snug. Double chesterfield style sofas, soft cushions and warm throws make this the most idyllic room for curling up with a good book, the wood burner for cooler months coupled with the sounds of the waves breaking on the rocks below will soon chase away the stresses and strains of everyday life!
The large wall mounted TV also makes this the perfect room for catching up on your favourite shows away from the rest of the party.
Need to catch up with some work and emails? A beautiful bureau with hand made oak stool gives a quiet space away from the main rooms so you can concentrate on work.
Next, climb the winding staircase to the first floor where you will find a further 2 of our suites.
The Driftwood Suite is the largest of our suites, a large, spacious room with triple aspect and as always fantastic views! Designed to reflect the driftwood that is often found washed up along the beaches around Balcary Bay the suite is beautifully presented throughout.
A king size bed with premium mattress ensures a restful night with the chosen colour scheme and rustic decor enveloping the guest in a sense of wellbeing.
Again with it's own TV, the suite is perfect for those times when retreat is needed to recharge the batteries.
Leading from the bedroom area are both a large full bathroom and dressing room.
The Driftwood Suite bathroom really is the ultimate bathing experience! A full size, semi sunken bath is perfectly positioned in front of a huge picture window overlooking the sea and Hesten Island beyond. Spend a good hour (or two) soaking the day away in this idyllic spot. During warm weather the doors on either side of the bathroom can be opened for a welcome and relaxing breeze almost giving the sense of bathing outdoors!
When there's no time for a bath, the large walk in shower is perfect to freshen up and you can prepare for the day ahead at the double basin vanity unit.
Moving from the bathroom you will find a full dressing room with multiple storage options.
Directly across from the first floor landing is the third of our suites.
The New Hamptons Suite has been beautifully decorated in shades of pale, mid and navy blue with textiles, patterns and decor carefully chosen to pay homage to this beautiful coastal area of the USA.
The good size bedroom area has a large picture window overlooking the pool and gardens making the very most of the beautiful views. A comfortable double bed, again with premium mattress, luxurious bedding and plush cushions give the room the luxury it deserves. A charming dressing table with stool and large mirror is the ideal space to prepare for the day ahead and with it's own TV you can catch up with the days news before heading out for the day.
The en-suite bathroom has a full size bath with over bath shower, basin and WC and is decorated to compliment the suite.
A walk in wardrobe means again there is plenty of storage for clothing and personal belongings.
The comfortable double bed sits below a hand crafted shelving unit displaying lovely curiosities in keeping with the feel of the suite, again with a TV and walk in wardrobe, the Coral Suite bathroom has a full size bath with shower, WC & vanity basin.
On the second floor you will also find access to the top of the tower via a hydraulic hatch. An amazing opportunity on a clear night to view the millions of stars and planets with virtually no light pollution, this really is an unforgettable experience!
THE OUTSIDE SPACE
The interior of the tower is outstanding in itself, however, the outside space really is the 'piece de resistance'!
The large patio area to the front of the tower has incredible views and envelopes you in seascape, with stylish, large and comfortable seating it is the most idyllic spot to enjoy a glass of fizz or perhaps light up the barbeque for some wonderful outdoor entertaining as you relax on the furniture in the shade of the umbrella.
At the rear of the tower you will find an incredible natural pool. Filled from the sea with the tides, a unique opportunity to experience a dip in a seawater pool, ideal for those guests who enjoy 'wild swimming'!
Climb the stairs at the rear of the tower into the extensive mature gardens, on the way up you will come across breathtaking views of the coves, rocks and sea below. Through the gate you will find a maze of mature gardens with beautiful plants, flowers and a multitude of local wildlife!
Relax on the bench by the pond or the other overlooking the sea, or perhaps a picnic in the grassed area, the possibilities are endless but each will leave you relaxed and amazed at just how beautiful the grounds are.
THE HISTORY
Balcary Tower is one of the most unique and fine examples of coastal property in Dumfries & Galloway.
The tower was built around 1860 by Colonel Johnstone, the Laird of Auchencairn House, it is believed for his French governess and mistress.
The Tower was extended in the 1960s and again in the 1970s and most recently, was professionally refurbished with a complete overhall in 2012.
The current owner has continued to refurbish and maintain this special property and it retains many of it's original features.
