The space
The house is a grand old lady that has stood by the sea for 90 years. She’s Charming, Quirky and colourful with a chequered history. She has sheltered four generations of a fishing family. Listened to their cries and laughter as they ploughed the seas for a living. Then came the Tsunami of 2004, submerging her, rushing through her as she valiantly stood helplessly in the face of the never before seen fury of the sea unleashed. Powerful currents swirled around and above her filling her walls with the sea. After that fateful day, her family left her for inland, abandoning her near the sea. The next 14 long years, she hid herself in a jungle that grew thick and tall around her and hid her from human eyes. Only wild animals and birds lived under her roof.
The family who bought the property next, had every intention of demolishing her, seeing her in her derelict state, trees and creepers growing thickly around her and wild animals roosting. But when they walked into her dark interior, something pulled at their hearts. The history whispering in every corner? The walls still standing tall with the ravages of tsunami written on them? The courage, the bravery and the sheer survival power of her? The stories she could tell?

Kurundu villa is 3 hours drive from the main international airport, BIA. 4 hours if you want to catch the train, but only 1/2 hour if you take the air-taxi which lands in the Mawella lagoon 300 meters from the property. If you land in Mattala International airport, its only an hour from there to the villa. We can arrange pick ups or drop offs for any of these options.
